Hissing, and Why I Wish it Would Stop
The upcoming football game between Seabury and Nashotah House brings with it reminders of some bad behavior on the part of our guests a few years ago. I'm sure that I was amused when a goodly number of Seabury students hissed at the very mention of Nashotah, because I was appalled at Nashotah's behavior and blog entry that followed the now-famous game. I don't like the rigidity and moral superiority, detected in letters from Nashotah's dean, requesting monetary support. Certainly I didn't ever ask to be on their mailing list. But I wish that we would stop hissing at the mention of the school's name. Yes, they're our opponents in a game, and we don't see eye to eye on much of anything as far as I can figure, but it disturbs me when we act so inhospitable -- even if it's just for fun.

I'm glad I am not the only one that feels this way. Having been a football player/coach in a former life, I certainly appreciate a good rivalry. It has always bothered be that the hissing thing goes on in chapel. Any other place I would be fine with it, but that just doesn't need to go on in a holy place.
And I would add that last year, I thought Nashotah was very hospitable.
I tend to agree with Archer on this one - anywhere but chapel, please - but if it helps, this didn't originate with the infamous game, its older than that.
