Rector search & exegetes

With Lent just a short sigh away, and more to do this week than ever, of course this is when random words, phrases and sentence constructions are getting to me -- much more than they should!  Surely this signifies a lack of patience on my part, and I'd darn well better pay attention to that before Wednesday.

Yesterday, the Prayer for a New Rector (led by the intercessor every Sunday during our current interim period) went something like this:  "Join me in reading the Prayer for a New Rector found in your pews."  I don't know if we need to rewrite the intercessors' instructions, or whether each person bids the prayer in his or her own words.  It sure sounded to me, though, that our rector search must be nearing its completion if all we need do is check the pews.  (This is not a comment about the intercessor; many sentences of this kind make their way into announcement time, too.  Oh, and don't get me started on the length of the announcements.)

Today's gripe? The commentary I read began one section with: "Much exegetical ink has been spilled..."   Noooooooooooooo!!  Does exegetical ink come in that cool Peacock Blue from my growing up years?

And there, dear readers, you have my minor rant of ridiculous intolerance.  I believe that I wrote this entry to instruct myself where to focus at the start of Lent, so that such a critical spirit will turn instead toward the service of others.  Create in me a clean heart, O Lord, and renew a right spirit within me.

Was that Mike Gorman? My NT II classes always noted that expression.

Nope! But I remember grumbling about this very phrase in a class of yours, and I'm pretty sure it was Gorman then.
